damping pedal

    0.02 sec.

damping pedal

On a piano, the ‘soft’ pedal, which on a grand piano shifts the hammers of the instrument so that they touch only two strings or a single string for each note, instead of three or two. For this reason its use is often indicated by the words una corda (‘one string’). This outdated term should not be confused with the damper pedal.
