de Meuron, Pierre (1950– )

Swiss architect. He formed a partnership with Jacques Herzog in 1978, and they became well known for their precision, fine craftsmanship, and innovative, highly original use of materials and technology. Their range of buildings includes the Tate Modern art gallery (2000) in London, England. De Meuron and Herzog jointly won both the 2001 Pritzker Architecture Prize and the 2003 Stirling Prize for Architecture.

De Meuron was born in Basel, Switzerland, and studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich. Other works include the Rudin House, Leymen, France (1997); the Dominus Winery, Napa Valley, California (1998); and the Ricola Marketing Building, Laufen, Switzerland (1998).
