de Saram, Rohan (1939– )

Sri Lankan cellist. He studied with Cassado and Casals, and performed in European concerts followed by a US debut at Carnegie Hall, in 1960. He lived in London from 1972, becoming a teacher at Trinity College of Music, London. He is often heard in Bach's suites and in music by Xenakis, Pousseur, Dallapiccola and Berio. He plays with the Arditti Quartet.
