de Vito, Gioconda (1907–1994)

Italian-born British violinist. She studied in Rome and won an international competition at Vienna, in 1932. She played in public from 1925 and appeared with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1947, with many concerts throughout Europe, Australia, and Argentina. She also appeared at the Edinburgh Festival. She gave stylish accounts of the standard repertory and retired in 1961. Her major recordings were issued in 1990 as The Art of Gioconda de Vito.
