Later, Petra Gummelt of the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald in Germany proved mathematically that Burkov's overlapping decagons are indeed equivalent to a quasiperiodic Penrose tiling. Rather than abutting each other like the Penrose tiles, these decagons overlap in specific ways. |
