heart failure

Condition arising when the heart's pumping mechanism is inadequate. It results in back pressure of blood, causing congestion of the liver and lungs, failure of the peripheral blood supply and oedema. It may be a consequence of hypertension or various types of heart disease. Treatment is with a diuretic and heart drugs, especially digoxin.

The research described in this paper illustrates that ST2 is a powerful biomarker for prediction of near term mortality in dyspneic as well as acute decompensated heart failure patients.

This program is planned to evaluate the safety and efficacy of CK-1827452 in a diversity of patients including those with stable heart failure, ischemic heart disease, impaired renal function, acutely decompensated heart failure, and patients with chronic heart failure at increased risk for death and hospital admission for heart failure.
