biophysics

Application of physical laws to the properties of living organisms. Examples include using the principles of mechanics to calculate the strength of bones and muscles, and thermodynamics to study plant and animal energetics.

In a broader sense, biological or biochemical investigations using physical methods such as X-ray crystallography are also described as biophysics.
