In medicine, the characteristic uneven sound that is heard when examining the diseased heart and various blood vessels using a stethoscope. Murmurs may be an indication of disease of the heart valves.

During that admission a diastolic murmur was note& and an echocardiogram showed severe aortic insufficiency with a thickened aortic valve.
Cardiovascular examination showed a water-hammer pulse (Corrigan's sign), prosthetic heart sounds, an ejection systolic murmur, and an early diastolic murmur consistent with aortic regurgitation.
