Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Acronyms, Wikipedia | 0.03 sec. |
digital compact cassetteDigitally recorded audio cassette that is roughly the same size as a standard cassette. It cannot be played on a normal tape recorder, though standard tapes can be played on a DCC machine; this is known as ‘backwards compatibility’. The playing time is 90 minutes. A DCC player has a stationary playback and recording head similar to that in ordinary tape decks, though the tape used is chrome videotape. The cassettes are copy-protected and can be individually programmed for playing order. Some DCC decks have a liquid-crystal digital-display screen, which can show track titles and other information encoded on the tape. |

Yes, digital compact cassette players sound better than compact disc players, but when you already own 300 compact discs, the last thing you want to hear is that you now need to replace them with 300 compact cassettes. Entertainment features include digital videodisc and laser disc players, two VCRs, two digital compact cassette players, five external video cameras and a mix of two 21-inch monitors and seven 10. But across the table sits Sony's rival, Philips Electronics, which has rolled out an alternative called Digital Compact Cassette, developed jointly with Matsushita. |
