Any of several marine fishes of the order Zeiformes. The American John Dory Zenopsis ocellata, to 2 ft/60 cm long, is deep-bodied with long spines on the dorsal and ventral fins. It lives in depths of 300 ft/90 m to 1,200 ft/365 m.
