direct object

In grammar, the noun phrase or pronoun on the receiving end of the action of a transitive verb (‘He founded the movement’; ‘They caught colds’; ‘Don't blame me’).

Such sentences as ‘John sent me a package’ have both a direct object (a package) and an indirect object (‘me’).
