double bar

double bar

A pair of bar-lines placed very close together and marking off a principal section of a musical composition, such as the end of the exposition and beginning of the development in a sonata or symphony. It may be preceded or followed by repeat signs, or both, in which case the music before and/or after it must be repeated.
