double loop learning

    0.01 sec.

double loop learning

Definition of learning where the theories and beliefs of how a system works are challenged and re-evaluated. Management academics have identified three types of learning. Firstly, developing skills, that is learning and practising new things. Secondly, single loop learning, that is developing better methods for doing things within a field of knowledge, such as improving manufacturing techniques using TQM. Thirdly, double loop learning, that is a complete re-evaluation of the assumptions made about a particular theory or system. Double loop learning is the most difficult of the three to undertake because it requires individuals to overcome defensive attitudes towards new theories of action.
