down bow

In the playing of string instruments, the movement of the bow in the direction from the heel to the point. It is stronger than the up bow, and string technique usually places a down bow on important beats and accented notes, unless marked otherwise in the music.

A down bow starts with the hand close to the strings pulling across the string from left to right, and is generally used on strong beats.
I got the impression that Sid Vicious could have run naked up and down Bow Street, decapitating old ladies and Branson would have dismissed it as boyish high jinks.
