Drink that provides water and often sugar, in a flavoured form. Soft drinks include all kinds of carbonated drinks, such as variously flavoured colas and sodas, ginger ale, and soda water. Many fruit-flavoured drinks contain no fruit but consist of water, sugar or artificial sweetener, and synthetic flavourings.

In the USA, $47 billion worth of soft drinks were sold 1991.
