du Bois, Guy Pène (1884-1958)

US painter. Beginning as a member of the Ashcan School of painting, which stressed social realism, he later changed his style. This more elegant and satirical approach may be seen in The Opera Box (1926).

He was born in Brooklyn, New York and there he studied with William Chase and Robert Henri.
