Dub

Genre of music developed from reggae during the 1970s. It is usually created using a song recording stripped of its vocals, and remixing, adding echo, delay, and DJ accompaniment, with heavy emphasis on drums and bass and often the addition of other sound effects.

Jamaican reggae artist Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry (1936– ) is a pioneer of dub, and his group, the Upsetters, released one of the first dub albums, Blackboard Jungle Dub, in 1973. Jamaican sound engineer Osbourne Ruddock (1941–89), known as ‘King Tubby’, who produced Perry's and many other emerging artists' music, is the best-known exponent of dub music and is credited with elevating the role of sound technician to artist.

Dub has influenced several other genres of music, including hip hop, techno, and house music.
