due diligence

Examination of an investment proposition lasting for a period of several months. Usually there are two distinct phases to the due diligence process. First there is rough analysis of the business plan. It is during this phase that the proposal stands the greatest chance of rejection. When the business proposal survives this first phase there is a much closer inspection of the business plan. This will include a detailed examination of the financial projections as well as interviews with the proposed management team.
