due process of lawLegal principle, dating from the Magna Carta, the charter of rights granted by King John of England in 1215, and now enshrined in the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments to the US Constitution, that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law (a fair legal procedure).
