dynamic IP address

In computing, a temporary IP address assigned from a pool of available addresses by an Internet Service Provider when a customer logs on to begin an online session.

Companies and other organizations which have their own networks typically have their own permanent IP addresses. Customers of a dial-up service provider, however, only need addresses for the length of time that they are actually on line. This method allows the finite number of available IP addresses to be used most efficiently.
