dysmenorrhoea

In medicine, pain during menstruation. Dysmenorrhoea is fairly common during adolescents and it may be due to excessive production of prostaglandins which mediate pain. Psychological factors are sometimes important. In older women, inflammation of the womb, ovaries and Fallopian tubes can result in dysmenorrhoea. Symptoms of dysmenorrhoea include pain in the pelvis, groin, thighs, and lower back. Other symptoms are headache, backache, general lassitude, and irritability. Analgesics and rest can relieve the pain in the majority of women.
