early adopters

Following a technological innovation, the second group (after the innovators) to take up the technology. US academic Everett Rogers suggested several classes of adopters of technological innovation in his ‘diffusion of innovations’ theory: innovators; early adopters; early majority; late majority; and laggards. Early adopters represent 13.5% of all adopters. According to Rogers, their role is to increase acceptance of a new idea through adoption and dissemination of a subjective evaluation of the innovation.
