elastomer

Any material with rubbery properties that stretches easily and then quickly returns to its original length when released.

Natural and synthetic rubbers and such materials as polychloroprene and butadiene copolymers are elastomers. The convoluted molecular chains making up these materials are uncoiled by a stretching force, but return to their original position when released because there are relatively few crosslinks between the chains.
