electromagnet |
Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Medical, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia | 0.01 sec. |
electromagnetCoil of wire wound around a soft iron core that acts as a magnet when an electric current flows through the wire. Electromagnets have many uses: in switches, electric bells, solenoids, and metal-lifting cranes. The strength of the electromagnet can be increased by increasing the current through the wire, changing the material of the core, or by increasing the number of turns in the wire coil. At the north pole of the electromagnet current flows anticlockwise; at the south pole flow is clockwise. How to thank TFD for its existence? If the trigger is pulled, the electrical circuit brings the current to the electromagnet and piston extends downward. A relay consists basically of an electromagnet with a soft iron bar, called an armature, held close to it. of the secondary suspension and mission-critical electromagnet control system of the actual maglev prototype and used this information to cross-check the simulation model's accuracy. |
