electrons, delocalized

    0.01 sec.

electrons, delocalized

Electrons that are not associated with individual atoms or identifiable chemical bonds, but are shared collectively by all the constituent atoms or ions of some chemical substances (such as metals, graphite, and aromatic compounds).

A metallic solid consists of a three-dimensional arrangement of metal ions through which the delocalized electrons are free to travel. Aromatic compounds are characterized by the sharing of delocalized electrons by several atoms within the molecule.
