elementarism

Art theory expounded by Theo van Doesburg of the De Stijl group of Dutch abstract artists in 1926. Elementarism expanded the limitations of neoplasticism set on artworks by Pieter Mondrian, a leading member of De Stijl. Neoplasticism allowed only the depiction of flat surfaces, straight lines, and right angles in artworks, whereas Doesburg believed that the use of inclined planes was also acceptable.
