Burrowing marine mollusc with a tusk-shaped shell open at both ends, from the larger of which the long foot appears and is used in creeping movements. The elephant's tusk shell has tentacles around its mouth, lacks eyes and heart, and lives in muddy sand sometimes at great depths of the sea.
