Opera by Gaetano Donizetti (libretto by F Romani, based on Augustin Scribe's Le Philtre, composed by Daniel Auber), first produced at the Teatro della Canobbiana, Milan, Italy, on 12 May 1832. In the story, the simple Nemorino hopes to win the landowner Adina with a love potion from the fraud Dulcamara. At first she spurns him, ready to marry Belcore, but then falls genuinely in love with him, without the help of the potion.
