endocrine gland) The main human endrocrine glands. These glands produce hormones - chemical messengers - which travel in the bloodstream to stimulate certain cells. Gland that secretes hormones into the bloodstream to regulate body processes. Endocrine glands are most highly developed in vertebrates, but are also found in other animals, notably insects.
