ephemeral plant

Plant with a very short life cycle, sometimes as little as six to eight weeks. It may complete several generations in one growing season.

A number of common weeds are ephemerals – for example, many groundsels (ragworts and squaw-weeds) Senecio and many desert plants. The latter take advantage of short periods of rain to germinate and reproduce, passing the dry season as dormant seeds.
