EACC can occur spontaneously following trauma or surgery as a result of the entrapment of squamous epithelial debris during the healing process. Several methods are used to close the excised burn wound including split skin grafts, allografts, synthetic skin substitutes and more recently cultured epithelial autografts (CEA's).
