Esprit

Trade name of an international group of companies, Esprit Holdings Ltd, designing garments, accessories, and lifestyle products. The company, with headquarters in Germany and Hong Kong, sells reasonably priced fashions to an under-30s market. In 2001 the company acquired the environmentally-aware Red Earth Cosmetics Brand.

Founded in 1968 by Susie and Doug Tompkins, Esprit initially designed fashionable sportswear for the US market. The company incorporated as Esprit de corp in 1971. A German-based division with its own design team was established in 1977 and has become one of the best-known fashion brand names in Germany. The company now sells its label in more than 40 countries.
