River mouth widening into the sea, where fresh water mixes with salt water and tidal effects are felt.

Estuaries are extremely rich in life forms and are breeding grounds for thousands of species. Water pollution threatens these ecosystems.

The mouth of the river proper is but about half a mile wide, formed by the contracting shores of the estuary.
They bobbed and bumped along up the estuary in countless thousands.
