ethmoid bone

Bone at the root of the nose between the eye sockets, forming part of the skull. The two cribriform plates of the bone form part of the roof of the nose, and have many small perforations through which pass fibres of the cranial nerve concerned with the sense of smell.

Noncontrast computed tomography (CT) of the paranasal sinuses demonstrated extensive disease in the fight maxillary sinus, fight ethmoid sinus, and fight sphenoid sinus along with destruction of the lamina papyracea, displace ment of the globe, and erosion of the cribriform plate (figure).

The patient was a 54-year-old man who presented with bilateral nasal obstruction, possible obstructive sleep apnea, and an altered voice, all of which had likely been caused by the presence of a massive left sphenochoanal polyp and bilateral grade III anterior and posterior ethmoid polyps.
