Evocations

Three symphonic poems by Albert Roussel, composed 1910–12: 1. Les Dieux dans l'ombre des cavernes; 2. La Ville rose; and 3. Aux bords du fleuve sacré. It was first performed for the Société Nationale in Paris, France, on 18 May 1912.

The symphonic suite with the same title by Ernest Bloch was composed in 1937 and first performed in San Francisco, USA, on 11 February 1938. It has the three movements Contemplation, Houang/God of War, and Renouveau.
