In business, management movement created in 1982 by US authors Tom Peters and Robert Waterman in their book In Search of Excellence. The book was a quest for US companies that could be described as ‘excellent’ at a time when the popular sentiment was that the Japanese had a monopoly on ‘excellence’ and quality. It also attempted to define the factors that made those companies excellent.
