expanded memory| In computing, additional memory in original MS-DOS-based computers, usually installed on an expanded-memory board. Expanded memory required an expanded-memory manager, which gave access to a limited amount of memory at any one time, and was slower to use than extended memory. Software is available under both MS-DOS and Windows to simulate expanded memory for those applications that require it. |
