SAS improves drive addressability and connectivity by using an expander to connect one or more SAS host controllers to up to 128 ports, which may include other host connections, other SAS expanders for even greater scalability, or hard disk drives. High-port count SAS expanders will provide the necessary performance and spindle densities required for next-generation server attached storage arrays and SATA storage systems," said Jeremey Donovan, vice president and chief analyst at Gartner Dataquest. Expanders accept digital signals from devices such as live sound applications, mixing console digital outputs and DVD players. |
