sinus

In biology, a sinus is a narrow cavity in the body. The paranasal sinuses in the skull communicate with the nose. Bacterial infection of these sinuses results in pain and inflammation and requires treatment with an antibiotic. Other examples of sinuses include the cavities in the membrane covering the brain through which the blood circulates.
