Fallopian tube

In mammals, one of two tubes that carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus. An egg is fertilized by sperm in the Fallopian tubes, which are lined with cells whose cilia move the egg towards the uterus.

Ectopic pregnancies occur in slightly more than one percent of all pregnancies and can present serious health problems if the fallopian tube ruptures.
In one example, English reproductive biologist Ronald Hunter had found that during ovulation, the isthmus--a site in the fallopian tube where sperm rest and mature before moving on--is slightly cooler than the site where fertilization occurs.
The Essure procedure, approved by the FDA in 2002, deploys a soft micro-insert into the fallopian tube through the cervix using a minimally invasive transcervical tubal access catheter.
