Bovidae

Mammal family that consists of 128 species of antelopes, sheep, goats, and cattle. They are ruminants (chew the cud) and also artiodactylate (even-toed); all the males and some of the females have horns consisting of solid bony extensions of the skull encased in a sheath of true horn.

Bovids occur in all parts of the Old World and in North America, but are not native to Australia and South America.

Classification

Bovidae is a family in order Artiodactyla.
