In Islamic law, an authoritative legal opinion on a point of doctrine. In 1989, a fatwa calling for the death of British novelist Salman Rushdie was made by the Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran, following publication of Rushdie's controversial and allegedly blasphemous book The Satanic Verses (1988).

AaKUWAIT, Oct 25 (KUNA) -- The National Assembly's Committee of Legal and Legislative Affairs on Sunday approved bills concerning financial disclosure and establishment of a fatwa and legislative authority.
The law does not explain the nature of the regulations, but last week the emirate's Fatwa Department ruled that under Islamic law, it is an obligation for Muslim women to wear the hijab head cover.
