Faunus

In Roman mythology, one of the oldest Italian deities; god of fertility and prophecy; protector of agriculturists and shepherds. He was later identified with the Greek Pan and represented with goat's ears, horns, tail, and hind legs.

Later Roman writers confused Greek satyrs (drunken, lustful, woodland creatures) with goat-footed fauni.
