fermium

Synthesized, radioactive, metallic element of the actinide series, atomic number 100, relative atomic mass 257.10. Ten isotopes are known, the longest-lived of which, Fm-257, has a half-life of 80 days. Fermium has been produced only in minute quantities in particle accelerators.

It was discovered in 1952 in the debris of the first thermonuclear explosion. The element was named in 1955 in honour of Italian-US physicist Enrico Fermi.

The compilations contains K- and L x-ray transition and absorption edge energies for all of the elements from neon to fermium and includes carefully selected and evaluated experimental data and trusted estimates obtained from state-of-the-art theoretical procedures.
The idea that an element has never been named after a living scientist is incorrect, since elements 99 and 100 were named einsteinium and fermium while Einstein and Fermi were alive, though the names were not sanctioned officially until after they had died.
