fitting

Device used to attach materials together. Permanent fittings include nails and rivets, while fittings that can be removed include screws and nuts and bolts. Hinges are fittings that allow movement at a joint. DIY furniture often includes specialist fittings called knock-down (KD) fittings, which are used to assemble products and hold them in place but can be removed in order to disassemble the product.

In the present situation--in which the scarcity of priests and the equal scarcity of candidates for the celibate priesthood endanger the right of God's people to participate in the Eucharist--an argument from fittingness must yield to the necessity of new and more creative ways of viewing priesthood.
Because it is the mind of our wholeness, our involvement with all things beyond ourselves, the Sympathetic Mind is alert as well to the issue of propriety, of the fittingness of our artifacts to their places, and to our circumstances, needs, and hopes.
In other words, moral fittingness is replaced by having your cake and eating it too.
