flashover

Small fire that erupts suddenly into a much larger one. It can occur if there is sufficient build up of heat from a small fire to ignite the mixture of gas and smoke produced. This increases temperatures further igniting surroundings. Flashovers can occur extremely rapidly with temperatures of 1,100°C being reached in seconds.
