Type of display suitable for portable and desktop computers such as LCD (liquid crystal display) or gas plasma screens (see plasma display). Flat-screen, or flat-panel, displays are compact and lightweight compared to traditional cathode-ray tube monitors and TV sets.

It is predicted that eventually all TV screens will be made using this type of technology.
