A plant flavone, luteolin, induces expression of Rhizobium meliloti nodulation genes.
The active constituents in gingko are believed to be flavone glycosides, and a number of terpenoids, including the sesquiterpene bilobalide and the diterpenoid ginkgolides A, B, and C.
