Sandy

Town in Bedfordshire, England, on the River Ivel, 12 km/7 mi east of Bedford; population (2001) 10,900. Sandy has some light industry and there is market gardening nearby. Many Roman relics have been excavated in the neighbourhood, and it is thought that the town may be the Roman Salinae.

City in north-central Utah, 24 km/15 mi south of Salt Lake City; population (1990) 75,100. It is a booming residential suburb and commercial centre.

Sandy was a smelting and shipping centre in the late 19th century. The Lone Peak and Twin Peaks wilderness areas are directly east of the city, in the Wasatch Range.
