flue-gas desulphurization

    0.01 sec.

flue-gas desulphurization

Process of removing harmful sulphur pollution from gases emerging from a boiler. Sulphur compounds such as sulphur dioxide are commonly produced by burning fossil fuels, especially coal in power stations, and are the main cause of acid rain.

The process is environmentally beneficial but expensive, adding about 10% to the cost of electricity generation.
